A hairy goal like this may be easy to set but requires systematic and focused effort to fulfill. Well-planned infrastructure at airports is among the prerequisites that must be in place, and new steps are constantly being taken at Sola.
Ingvald Erga says that the airport has recently entered into an agreement with the innovative local company Kverneland Energi. The agreement involves the delivery of a solar cell-based battery pack that will be able to store 600 kilowatt hours. Enough to supply power to electric aircraft.
Kverneland Energi has collaborated with Avinor at Sola for a long time and has ensured that the airport already today covers seven percent of its energy consumption with the help of self-produced energy.
Development in the area is progressing rapidly, and Stavanger Airport is in the top tier both in Norway and Europe.
– We are continuously working to create smart control systems and increase the production of renewable energy. Something we do together with forward-leaning companies such as Kverneland Energi and Rolls Royce. I certainly have the impression that we here at Sola are far ahead. Interest in what we do, among both domestic and foreign aviation players, is increasing. This is inspiring, and today we are well on our way to achieving the goal of establishing an electric flight route from Sola in 2026, says Ingvald Erga.
